Leaving the Food Matrix — Discovering Traditional European Foods
What happens when we look beyond America's industrial food system for foods produced in countries with stricter food standards, traditional agricultural practices, and fewer chemical and genetic modifications?
Join NiKO and me as we explore a European market in search of foods from smaller producers, remote regions, and countries where traditional food production methods are still practiced.
We're looking for non-GMO ingredients, minimal processing, fewer synthetic additives, and foods that retain their natural nutritional value.
In this spontaneous demonstration, we discover:
Rosehip paste — a traditional fruit preparation from a plant naturally rich in vitamin C.
Rose petal preserves — an example of traditional botanical food preparation.
Sea buckthorn — a nutrient-rich berry valued in European and Asian food traditions.
Plum butter — a concentrated traditional fruit preparation, including varieties without added sugar.
But the real lesson isn't about jam.
IT'S ABOUT KNOWING WHERE OUR FOOD COMES FROM, HOW IT'S GROWN, WHAT'S BEEN ADDED TO IT, AND WHAT HAS BEEN REMOVED THROUGH PROCESSING.
A European label doesn't automatically guarantee purity. That's why we examine ingredients, sourcing, and production practices rather than relying on marketing claims.
Food sovereignty begins with knowledge. Biological sovereignty begins with what we put into our bodies.
